Survivors' Stories

Carrie was diagnosed two weeks after we were married on November 3rd, 2007. Unfortunately, we were telling ours friends more about her breast cancer then our newly found marriage. At a young age of 31, my wife Carrie was about to take upon the biggest challenge of her life. I didn’t realize how big a role I was about to undertake. I was not only going to be her new husband but also her inspiration. In addition, to getting married, fighting cancer/chemo, selling a house, buying a house in a different city, and losing a job… we are both proud to say we are survivors.
For Carrie being a relatively young survivor in Breast Cancer standards…I wanted to play a bigger role to our age demographic on the awareness of Breast Cancer. Curerntly, there are a lot of groups, foundations, and websites that promote Breast Cancer Awareness. But, no one has what we were able to build. Thus, the Pink Cure was created to spread the awareness. The Pink Cure is my old 1978 Chevy convertible Monte Carlo. It was transitioned into a candy pink paint with white/pink interior. To bring our point across more so, the interior seats were embroidered with pink ribbons. This car has brought so much joy to ourselves and the people we come across. To say the least, we are bringing awareness one mile at a time.

“I’m standing on the backs of all the survivors that have come before me, like my mom, Anita. And I am fighting for all little girls, like my Maddie, so they may have a world without breast cancer.”— Kerri, July 2008
